  • “Lauren of Potty Smarts truly changed our family's life. We were in the trenches of potty refusal/withholding with our strong-willed 3 year old for the better part of a year, and after less than 2 months of working with Lauren, we are both shocked and thrilled to say we are almost entirely on the other side of it. Thank you Lauren!

About Lauren

Struggling with - & resolving - challenges while potty training my own children, inspired me to write From Chewing to Pooing: Food’s Journey Through Your Body to the Potty. A picture book families can use to help ease the anxiety so many children experience with poop, by explaining what’s happening inside & coming out of their bodies. The positive response from parents and healthcare practitioners has been unbelievably fulfilling; leading me to want to continue to help in meaningful ways, by become a potty training consultant.

In addition to completing Allison Jandu’s Potty Training Consultant certification program, my role as author of From Chewing to Pooing has afforded years of learning from - & collaborating with - experts from various fields that intersect with resolving the most troublesome and common potty training challenges, with a heavy emphasis on poop withholding & chronic constipation.

My mission as a consultant is to ease the pressure & self-doubt so many parents feel while navigating the potty training journey, & to help make each family’s path as smooth as possible.

From Chewing To Pooing:

Food's Journey Through Your Body to the Potty

For many children, learning to poop on the potty is challenging, if not downright frightening; often leading to withholding & painful constipation.

By providing a child-friendly explanation of the hidden, inner-body process of digestion, children’s picture book From Chewing to Pooing takes the mystery out of poop. Understanding their own body is empowering for all children & particularly reassuring for those with bathroom anxiety. It has been highly recommended by a broad range of experts including: pediatricians, pediatric: gastroenterologists, dietitians, occupational & physical therapists, child psychologists, educators, potty training consultants and parents around the world.

With a special back-section for parents & caregivers by pediatrician Natalie Gehringer, MD & illustrations by award-winning artist, Maile McCarthy. Featured in: Scary Mommy, Parents, ABC Television’s Your California Life, Children’s Museum of Sonoma County’s Science Sparks program and much more.

“After we read this my toddler decided he wanted to poop in the potty. So thank you. Prior he was only peeing in the potty and I was getting really frustrated.”
